Welcome to our blog! Mara and Brandon here ✨ Ready to experience some life changing wobbles? This adventure was a long, hot trek to an awesome venue, packed with a ton of fun …and a ton of biting bugs.
The Road Trip
After the experience at Bonnaroo, we decided that the bus was not ready to make such a long trip.
📍North GA ➡️ 📍Hampton VA
647 miles, about 10 hours
Instead, we took our trusty truck, Bert. I should mention at this time that we had NO A/C and there was a 🔥heat wave rolling through the country 🥵🥵. I will also mention that when this trip was planned, we were planning on driving the bus so we thought we would have A/C and would be best suited at campgrounds.

We took the drive in two days. The first night we stayed at Medoc Mountain State Park for a reasonable $26 /night fee. Since we just had the truck, we brought all our normal camping gear, cooler, and hammock set ups. Driving into this forest, we noticed a density change around us. The trees were so close together and such a deep green, it was a bit overwhelming at first. The air felt so close …and then we realized there was no wind. And there continued to be no wind literally all night. With a low of 73° and humidity at 82%, we had a rough night after the hours we had spent in the hot truck.
The next morning we packed up and headed further NE to Hampton, VA where we had reserved Newport News State Park for 2 nights. Pulling in, it was a pretty nice campground and we set up camp before getting ready for our first night of fun.

🤯🤯🤯 Not gonna lie, this was my favorite musical experience to date. Pulling up to the venue, we were entranced by the exterior. I know that sounds cheesy but pictures don’t really do this place justice. Knowing one of our favorite artists was inside about to deliver a magical night only made it that much more impressive.
As we were gathering our things, some guys asked if we wanted to chill and we had a pretty nice conversation. It helped set the mood for the night and funnily, we saw them over and over through the night even though we both kept moving.
When we first entered the venue, it was a lot less crowded than we thought it would be which we enjoyed. While the SubCarbon group performed, we were able to scope out the whole space and determine where we wanted to be for the show and were even able to get very close to the stage.

Ultimately, we picked a seat in the second level, over a walkway. If you go to live events, you probably know that people walk anywhere there is space and I tend to attract whole lines of people. Being above the walkway seemed to appease the universe as we were not jostled all night. It was a very welcome change.
The next three performances were of themselves amazing. I love seeing artists play off of each other’s styles to create new sounds. Boogie T solidified himself as “Wonk Daddy” in my book. There’s no better way to describe his sound in my opinion.

Ganja White Night
“Are you f*cking ready to WOBBLE?”
Astonishing. Life Changing. Amazing. Wonderful. There are so many ways I could describe this set. None of them would do it justice. They have created such a dynamic world within their music and are able to capture such emotion, movement, through their music. Ebo, their artist, has done a fantastic job capturing these characters and giving them life.
If I could go back and experience this night again, I would, over and over again. Incredible.

Back at Camp
We ended the night somewhere around 1am and regrouped ourselves at camp, hydrating and refueling before we passed out. Or, that’s usually what happens. We came back to a campsite that again had no wind and had not cooled off from the day. We both climbed into our hammocks and tried to get comfortable. Within minutes, Brandon had been bitten so many times, through his bug net, that he started to get out of his hammock. I quickly followed as I was already drenched in sweat and sticking to my hammock. We knew we weren’t going to be able to last the night like this, much less a second night. We packed up camp as fast as we could and drove around town looking for an open hotel room.
Around 4 am we were successful and were finally let into a room with ✨air conditioning✨. A shower and fresh bed felt like such luxuries 😂
Breakfast the next morning boosted our spirits further as we prepared for the night.

This lineup was less familiar to us but we still enjoyed the build up. I listen to The Widdler and Of The Trees so it was cool to see them in person. Honestly after the previous night, we were exhausted and enjoyed the more laid back sets.
GWN’s second night was filled with throwbacks and more of the story in their universe. What can I say? They are incredible DJs and storytellers, not to mention producers. My favorite part of this set was the collab with Griz around an hour and twenty in. So so good. 🧸

To the Hotel!
We stayed as long as we were allowed to just soak in the A/C. With temps in the 90s, we decided we wanted to be back home as fast as possible so we took the trip in one day on the way back. A very hot 10+ hours but it was well worth it to get to be in our own bed and with our babies.
Thank you for joining us on this journey of a lifetime. We hope our blog inspires you to embrace your own spirit of adventure and discover purpose in everything you do.
Until next time, happy trails!
